36 Hours in Las Vegas (when you don't gamble)!

36 hrs in Vegas
This past February my husband and I were lucky enough to be invited to a friends wedding in Las Vegas. I think that I might the last person of legal drinking age on the continent never to have visited, so I was excited, even if I don't enjoy gambling. I’m sure you can come up with the obvious activities; shows (we didn't have time), clubs (no), and pools (apparently they close them in the ‘winter’). So if you’re like us, either too cool or there during the wrong time of year, here are some of the things we came up with.
Hang-Over Breakfast
Eggslut is wait-in-line worthy, even if you get there early, you're gonna wait and its so worth it. Whether you're looking for a good hang-over breakfast, or you just want to feel like you're eating real food, their egg sandwiches will make you feel alive again, they are that good. Check out their menu here.

Go to Momofuku, get the ramen. Well, probably get a reservation first (we manage to slip in with out one, but I wouldn't bet my noodles on it), then get the ramen. Order everything else as well, obviously. It’s located in the Cosmopolitan, and you can check out the menu here. Don't forget dessert.

Dessert

Milk Bar Bakery is conveniently located next to Momofuku, (where you can order off the dessert menu). Even if you ate all of the ramen, (you definitely did) get the dessert. It’s called Crack Pie for a reason! Feel free to drool as you check out their goodies here.

Coffee

Sambalattee at the Monte Carlo has great coffee and is approraitly third-wave/hipster. Get the Rose Latte you wont regret it.

Cocktails

Herbs And Rye is an amazing little dive (aka award winning bar) filled with locals who will sit and have a chat with you. They make vintage cocktails by decade and they make ‘em good. Don't be scared, its off the strip, but its so worth the trip. If you need more incentive, their small plates and appetizers are fantastic. Try the beef carpaccio, or if you prefer your meat cooked I hear the chicken wings are amazing (I cant say for sure because my friend Steve inhaled all of them immediately). Ask for Joe.
Beer

We spent hours hanging out at Beerhaus (our flight was massively delayed). They have great beer, a relaxing atmosphere and Jenga on all the tables!

Want to see the Eiffel Tower? the Brooklyn Bridge? Ancient Rome(ish)? the middle-ages, or an Egyptian Pyramid? Checking out some of the other casinos was high on my list of to-dos, though this might be less enticing in the heat of a Nevada summer. We were staying at the lovely Excalibur, but I made sure to check out New York-New York, Bellagio, The Venetian, and oddly enough Mandalay Bay was my favorite. Weird fact; friends pointed out that all of the casinos are scent branded and its true, they each have their own over powering smell.

Welcome To Las Vegas
The wedding we were there to attend took place at the Las Vegas sign in all its glory, Elvis presided and it rained. It was awesome and very memorable. But, back to the sign, its a lot smaller in real life and though its not too far down the strip you will have to fight off other sight-seers and guys pretending to work there.

Let's Face It... You're In Vegas
So, your travel companion is getting cranky with your refusal to spend any time on the casino floor… here are my suggestions. Hit the slots. My husband is notoriously lucky at slot machines, I watched him win $100 on a $1.50 bet with my own eyes. I am not, unless you consider losing $20 at the touch of a button lucky. If, like me, slots are not your thing I would suggest Roulette, its easy to get the hang of and relatively low stress on the rules front.
I hope this helps. Have fun!
